Bukhari (بخاري), also spelled as ''Bokhari'', ''Bukhary'' and ''Bukhori'', is a common surname in Central and Western Asia, meaning "from Bukhara" (in today's Uzbekistan). Its Arabic version Al-Bukhari ((アラビア語:البخاري)) was also used in the medieval Islamic world as a nisba (a specifier which is added at the end of names). The surname has also been used by the Bukhari Sayyids, the large majority of whom now reside in Pakistan.
